Ingredients
Scale
- 2 oz bourbon or rye whiskey
- ¾ oz sarsaparilla syrup (or high-quality root beer syrup)
- ½ oz fresh lemon juice
- 4–5 fresh mint leaves
- Ice (crushed or cubed)
- Garnish: fresh mint sprig & lemon wheel
Instructions
- In a cocktail shaker, gently muddle the mint leaves with the lemon juice and sarsaparilla syrup.
- Pour in the bourbon, add ice, and shake vigorously for about 15 seconds.
- Strain into a rocks glass filled with fresh ice.
- Slap a mint sprig to release its oils and tuck it into the glass. Add a lemon wheel on the rim for visual pop.
Notes
- For a sweeter drink, adjust the amount of sarsaparilla syrup to taste.
- Fresh mint is key for the best flavor.
- Can be made with non-alcoholic bourbon alternatives for a mocktail version.
